Many Crystal Palace fans are reacting to the latest transfer rumours which are suggesting that Dwight Gayle could make a surprising return to Selhurst Park.
According to The Sun and as tweeted out by @cpfc_xtra, Gayle would be keen on returning to the Eagles – if offered the chance – when his Newcastle United contract expires in the summer. One Palace fan said: ‘I would love this to happen’.
Gayle shone in his debut campaign for Palace in the Premier League scoring seven goals in 23 appearances, (Transfermarkt). These goals were crucial in helping them stay in the top flight, something which they had never done before, (Premier League).
His decent goal scoring record would continue at the club as he would eventually score 25 goals in 75 appearances (Transfermarkt). To get a goal once every three games was good return for a striker who was in a side battling for survival, especially considering that he had never previously played at that level.
Here is what these Palace fans said following the news:
“Wow! I would love this to happen! He has unfinished business with us!”
“I beg this happens”
“The rebuild BEGINS!!!”
“Definitely would be good. Good replacement for Michy.”
“Bring him home.”
