Many Crystal Palace fans are reacting to a tweet from Dominic Fifield in which he provides a transfer update on the South London side’s pursuit of Demarai Gray.
Fifield tweeted: ‘Bit in here about #CPFC‘s interest in Demarai Gray, a player they (among others) hope to sign this month. Gray’s only played 18 minutes of Premier League football this season and is not included this afternoon at Brentford. Out of contract in the summer.’
He is only 24 and his signing would help reduce the average age of an old Palace squad. Gray was also part of the amazing season which saw Leicester win the Premier League. This, and the fact that he has made 255 appearances in his career, highlights that the player has a lot of experience at a top-level and that he could provide some great squad depth for the club.
He is a Premier League winner available for a cheap price and with over ten Palace players’ contracts currently expiring in the summer, some new additions are definitely needed.
The Daily Mail have reported that the Foxes want around £1.8 million for the Englishman and for this fee, Gray could be a smart acquisition.
Here is what Palace fans said following the tweet:
“Obviously a cracking deal to pursue at £2m. He is, however, predominately a left winger. We’re pretty strong on the left side with Schlupp, Eze, Zaha etc so not a critical position to fill.”
“I think he’d be an excellent addition – especially with Schlupp out for a while. He’ll have something to prove and give our attack extra pace. What’s not to like?”
“Oh I’m gassed about this”
“What are the chances on this one?”
“A Palace player if I’ve ever seen one, a no brainer at less than £2M, imo.”
“Would love us to get this over the line. Been championing him for a while, plus I signed him on Football Manager and it turned out well. And if that isn’t enough to convince Dougie and co, what is?!”
