John Lundstram has been linked to Crystal Palace on multiple occasions, most recently in the January transfer window, and he has finally commented on the speculation surrounding his future.
Lundstram breaks his silence
The midfielder was speaking in the press conference in the build-up to Sheffield United’s clash against Chelsea this weekend. He said (via The Sheffield Star): “It’s the same situation, everything’s still on the table. We’ll see what happens. Of course, [speculation] is bound to happen but I’m here and while I am here I’m committed, as you’ve seen in my performances.”
Palace should take the plunge
Lundstram was lauded by teammate Billy Sharp last season, with the striker saying: “He’s got all the attributes. He runs so much in a game, he provides assists and goals. He’s a real menace to other teams and a great player to have.”
It is easy to see why he received such praise for his performances last campaign as he became a vital player both in attack and defence for the Blades as he averaged 1.4 tackles, one interception and 1.3 shots per game, (WhoScored). He also scored five goals, which was the joint-second most in the squad, and provided three assists.
This season, he has still managed to provide a key attacking threat from central midfield as he has picked up two assists and managed 1.1 key passes a game, although he is yet to find the back of the net.
Palace currently have a strong midfield, but key player James McArthur is nearing the end of his career at the age of 33, (Transfermarkt) whilst James McCarthy’s contract expires in the summer. This emphasises that Lundstram could be the ideal signing for Palace, especially due to the fact that as things stand, the £7.20m-valued player will be available on a free due to his contract expiring in the summer.
In other news, many Palace fans were delighted following a recent club update. Have a read of what happened here!
