Crystal Palace defender Mamadou Sakho has been linked with a move away from Selhurst Park, but one factor is blocking his move to Ligue 1 outfit Nice.
The latest on Sakho
Is this a blow for Palace?
The 30 year-old has suffered a fair few injuries whilst at the club. They have seen him miss at least 375 days of football since he joined the Eagles (Transfermarkt).
His contract is due to expire in the summer and at £100k-a-week it is very unlikely that the club will want to offer him an extension. Therefore, allowing Sakho to collect dust in the treatment room for the next six months is a costly and pointless exercise.
He has only featured with four Premier League appearances this season, and costs them about £5.2m-a-year, so it highlights that the club are yet again wasting money in what is fast becoming a contract crisis.
