Arsenal youngster Eddie Nketiah would be an ideal signing for Crystal Palace, according to BBC radio pundit Noel Whelan.

The Lowdown: Nketiah linked with Palace move

The 22-year-old is an exciting young player - he has been hailed as 'extraordinary' by Gunners boss Mike Arteta in the past - but he has lacked playing time at the Emirates Stadium. He is yet to receive a single minute of Premier League action this season, making two starts in the Carabao Cup and scoring twice.

The striker has been linked with a move to Palace in the past and it could be that he views Selhurst Park as a future destination.

The Latest: Whelan talks up Nketiah move

Whelan thinks that the move would be a match made in heaven, telling Football Insider that Nketiah could thrive under Patrick Vieira. He said:

"I think somebody like Crystal Palace. That would probably work well for him. He’s a young player. I think Patrick Vieira is liking that style and that energy about a younger side now.

"When you look at the strikers that they’ve got in Benteke and Edouard, they’re very similar. They don’t really have a Nketiah kind of player. I think that might be a balance that might be quite nice for Patrick Vieira.

"When you’re thinking about a good, young British player that knows the league already, he’s perfect. Vieira is looking to bring players in and transform this Crystal Palace team.

"I think he’d probably get more guarantees of getting more minutes with Crystal Palace than he would with Arsenal.

"We see the style of football they’re playing. It’s attractive, it’s good to watch it’s energetic. I can see him fitting in really well there at Crystal Palace, if they decide that is a player they want to have on their books."

The Verdict: Would be an exciting young addition

Palace have made a promising start to life with Vieira at the helm, with Saturday's superb 2-0 win away to Manchester City indicating that the Frenchman is the right appointment as his expansive brand of football begins to take hold.

The Arsenal marksman is England under-21s' all-time record goalscorer, scoring 16 goals in just 17 caps, which highlights the quality that he possesses in the final third. Also, as Whelan has said, the 22-year-old may have a much better chance of game-time at Palace, considering that he hasn't featured much on the other side of London recently.

Nketiah is someone who could add an injection of youth to the Eagles' attack, coming in as a valuable squad player and hopefully maturing into a key player over time.
