# Wolves: Dean Jones reacts to Matheus Cunha transfer links

**Journalist [Dean Jones](https://twitter.com/DeanJonesSoccer?ref_src=twsrc%5Egoogle%7Ctwcamp%5Eserp%7Ctwgr%5Eauthor) has said that it would be ‘really interesting’ if [Wolves](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/wolves-news/) manage to sign Atletico Madrid’s Matheus Cunha.**

### The Lowdown: Offer being prepared

The Old Gold are keen on making up to [six](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/63999749) January signings and are believed to be in discussions with up to [15](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/wolves-news/premier-league-wolves-old-gold-the-times-julen-lopetegui-latest-transfer-rumours/) players ahead of the winter market officially opening in two weeks’ time.

Cunha seems to be a top target at Molineux, with recent [reports](https://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/wolves-aston-villa-january-transfer-offers-atletico-madrid-matheus-cunha/blteff730225b7d561b) suggesting that Wolves are preparing an offer for the 23-year-old and have been in contact with the player’s representatives.

Hailed as a [“magician”](https://twitter.com/RBLeipzig_EN/status/1163468049133047810) by his former club RB Leipzig, Cunha is also wanted by Midlands rivals [Aston Villa](https://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/wolves-aston-villa-january-transfer-offers-atletico-madrid-matheus-cunha/blteff730225b7d561b) despite netting just [seven](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/matheus-cunha/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/517894) times in [54](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/matheus-cunha/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/517894) games for Atletico.

### The Latest: Jones’ comments

Jones was speaking to [GiveMeSport](https://www.givemesport.com/88094718-wolves-wolverhampton-wanderers-matheus-cunha-atletico-madrid-premier-league-julen-lopetegui-fosun) regarding the rumours on Wolves and Cunha. He said a transfer to Molineux would be ‘really interesting’ and added that [Julen Lopetegui](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/tag/julen-lopetegui/) may think that the Brazilian could raise the standards of the other players at Molineux.

The journalist said in relation to this transfer rumour: *“Maybe Lopetegui feels that it’s something that can improve the level of the players around him. So, this would be a really interesting signing.”*

### The Verdict: Fingers crossed

Cunha has shown his quality in the past despite struggling in La Liga, contributing to [23](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/matheus-cunha/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/517894) goals in [40](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/matheus-cunha/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/517894) games for Hertha Berlin.

Adding to Wolves’ attacking ranks should be a top priority for Lopetegui next month, as they have netted just [eight](https://www.premierleague.com/tables) times in 15 [Premier League](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/premier-league-news/) games so far this season, the lowest tally in the division.

Cunha can also play on [either wing](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/matheus-cunha/profil/spieler/517894), which could come in handy when summer signing Sasa Kalajdzic returns from [injury](https://www.google.ie/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=2ahUKEwjF4ZL9jIP8AhXOTsAKHUZDAm4QFnoECA0QAQ&url=https%3A%2F%2Ftheathletic.com%2F3565108%2F2022%2F09%2F04%2Fsasa-kalajdzic-acl-injury%2F&usg=AOvVaw0Yuag6HMeoqPM-X6-oRZH2) next year, so fingers crossed that it is Wolves who win the race for the Brazilian’s services.
