# Newcastle: Danny Mills lauds ‘ideal’ Toon signing Callum Wilson

**Newcastle have [added to their squad](https://www.nufc.co.uk/news/latest-news/newcastle-united-sign-callum-wilson/) today after striking a deal for former Bournemouth star Callum Wilson.**

Despite his impressive return of [eight goals and three assists](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/callum-wilson/leistungsdaten/spieler/123682/plus/0?saison=2019) last season, the Cherries were victims of relegation after five years in the Premier League.

The Magpies snapped up the England international for a fee of £20m after Aston Villa reportedly withdrew their bid of £21m (via [BBC Sport](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/54055640)), as Wilson reportedly favoured a move to Tyneside over the Villains.

Danny Mills has waxed lyrical over Newcastle’s business and he feels the 28-year-old will be a very good signing for the Toon.

“I think it is really good value for money, especially bearing in mind what they spent on Joelinton,” the former Leeds man told [Football Insider](https://www.footballinsider247.com/perfect-exclusive-danny-mills-blown-away-by-one-imminent-newcastle-signing/). “If he plays 38 league games he will probably get you 15, 16, 17 goals. That would be a really good return and goals is something that Newcastle need.”

Indeed, Steve Bruce’s side finished in a respectable 13th place last campaign but scored just 38 goals, one of the lowest returns in the league. However, if Wilson’s [14-goal and 10-assist](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/callum-wilson/leistungsdaten/spieler/123682/plus/0?saison=2018) 2018/19 season is anything to go by, Newcastle should be much more of a threat with him in attack.

“A fantastic move for Newcastle and an ideal, perfect, signing for Steve Bruce,” Mills continued.

Wilson scored a total of 67 goals for Bournemouth in 187 appearances (via [Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/callum-wilson/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/123682)). He should be a strong addition to the Toon, who spent last season with the likes of Joelinton and Andy Carroll ([two league goals combined](https://www.whoscored.com/Teams/23/Archive/England-Newcastle-United)) as their options up front.
