![Henri Saivet](https://cdn.footballtransfertavern.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/Henri-Saivet-500x272.jpg)Newcastle fans suffering from a hangover at the bar after their 1-0 loss to Watford in the FA Cup will be feeling slightly more cheery, [with French publication L’Equipe](https://www.lequipe.fr/Football/Actualites/Transfert-henri-saivet-bordeaux-s-est-mis-d-accord-avec-newcastle/623491)  reporting that the Magpies are closing in on a deal to sign Bordeaux midfielder Henri Saivet.

Newcastle saw an[initial £3 million bid](https://www.lequipe.fr/Football/Actualites/Transfert-henri-saivet-bordeaux-s-est-mis-d-accord-avec-newcastle/623491) rejected by the Bordeaux for the midfielder, but remain interested in signing him, with an [agreement close to be reached.](https://www.lequipe.fr/Football/Actualites/Transfert-henri-saivet-bordeaux-s-est-mis-d-accord-avec-newcastle/623491)

Eddie Howe’s AFC Bournemouth are also r[eportedly interested](https://www.lequipe.fr/Football/Actualites/Transfert-henri-saivet-bordeaux-s-est-mis-d-accord-avec-newcastle/623491) in signing the 25-year old, who is capable of playing out wide or in central midfield, but the word around the Tavern is that the Cherries would rather wait until the summer for a deal, which will provide Newcastle with an opportunity to return with an improved offer.

The Magpies are willing to offer[Saivet a five-year deal](https://www.lequipe.fr/Football/Actualites/Transfert-henri-saivet-bordeaux-s-est-mis-d-accord-avec-newcastle/623491) as they look to fend off interest from a host of Premier League rivals.

Any deal for Saivet would all but [confirm a departure for Cheick Tiote,](https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/newcastle-united-transfers-chinese-premier-10708776) who is wanted by Chinese Premier League side Shanghai Greenland Shenhua.

The Ivory Coast international was signed from FC Twente [for £3.5 million](https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/newcastle-united-transfers-chinese-premier-10708776) back in August 2010, and has 18 months left on his contract.

But the 29-year old has hinted that he is ready to leave St James’ Park this month and would look to team up in [Shanghai with former Newcastle striker Demba Ba.](https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/newcastle-united-transfers-chinese-premier-10708776)
