# Leeds: Journalist not confident Kalvin Phillips will sign new deal

**Leeds United star Kalvin Phillips is looking unlikely to sign a new deal with the Whites in the near future, according to journalist Dean Jones.**

### The Lowdown: Phillips’ future up in the air

The 25-year-old has made giant strides in the past year or so, going from a player loved by Leeds fans to someone appreciated by the wider footballing public.

### The Latest: Journalist makes worrying claim

Speaking to [GIVEMESPORT](https://www.givemesport.com/1785251-leeds-transfer-news-fresh-update-emerges-over-deal-involving-36m-star), Jones claimed that there is increasing concern at Elland Road that Phillips won’t extend his stay at Leeds given the lack of progress in contract talks.

He said: “I don’t think that will definitely go through at all. I think they’re starting to be a bit concerned about it.”

Losing Phillips would clearly be an almighty blow for the Whites, considering his quality on the pitch and the character he possesses on and off it – his joint squad-high [2.4 tackles per game](https://www.dailystar.co.uk/sport/football/exclusive-kalvin-phillips-liverpool-leeds-25312063) illustrates just how important he is to Marcelo Bielsa’s side, particularly in terms of breaking up the play.

Unfortunately, preparing for life without the 25-year-old is something Leeds fans may have to do, with his sights potentially set on playing for a Champions League club given his increasing exposure to the England camp.

It could be that Phillips decides to move on at the end of the season, assuming a big offer arrives, and the Whites may need to bite the bullet and accept his decision, using the funds wisely to replace him.
