# Decision down to Klopp as Liverpool emerge as option for big name star – Report

**As you can imagine, the Liverpool fans here in the Transfer Tavern are getting more and more annoyed about the fact their star man is always linked away. Indeed, all [this talk](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-5080663/Philippe-Coutinho-edges-closer-Barcelona-move.html) about Philippe Coutinho’s future has grown really rather tiresome.**

So, having said that, reports from the [Daily Mail](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-5084539/Rakitic-leave-Barcelona-club-sign-Coutinho.html) suggesting the club could land a big-name European midfielder have proven a very welcome distraction indeed. According to [them](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-5084539/Rakitic-leave-Barcelona-club-sign-Coutinho.html), the Reds may emerge as an option for Barcelona star Ivan Rakitic should Coutinho depart.

The latter was a huge money target for the *Blaugrana* over the course of the summer and, with a January bid [reportedly](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-5080663/Philippe-Coutinho-edges-closer-Barcelona-move.html) expected, Rakitic is [understood](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-5084539/Rakitic-leave-Barcelona-club-sign-Coutinho.html) not to fancy suddenly playing second fiddle to the Brazilian. At the age of 30, the former Sevilla man is [thought](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-5084539/Rakitic-leave-Barcelona-club-sign-Coutinho.html) to have one more big move in him, apparently considering his options.

This report [claims](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-5084539/Rakitic-leave-Barcelona-club-sign-Coutinho.html) the Catalan giants could use the Champions League winner as part of a swap deal should Jurgen Klopp decide he can fit the Liverpool mould, something our resident Reds think should be easy enough for a player of his quality.

**Landlord’s Verdict:**

While Rakitic’s level has dropped somewhat in the last few years, few would doubt his quality. To play in *that* midfield – which at times included Xavi, Iniesta and Sergio Busquets – you’d have to be a special talent.

Indeed, the Croatia star would be a big addition to a Liverpool midfield not all too sure on what it wants to be.

***Thoughts?***
