# West Ham: Dele Alli backed to thrive for Hammers

**Dele Alli could thrive under David Moyes if he makes the move from Tottenham to West Ham this month, according to [former England international](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/carlton-palmer/nationalmannschaft/spieler/101325/verein_id/3299) Carlton Palmer.**

### The Lowdown: Alli linked with Hammers move

The 25-year-old has had a difficult few years at Spurs, having initially burst onto the scene as a hugely exciting teenage prodigy.

Alli has been [linked](https://www.eurosport.co.uk/football/premier-league/2021-2022/tottenham-and-arsenal-ready-to-cut-dele-alli-and-pierre-emerick-aubameyang-loose-inside-football_sto8675179/story.shtml) with a move to West Ham in the [January transfer window](https://www.givemesport.com/1754870-january-transfer-window-2022-when-does-it-open-when-does-it-close-and-which-players-are-going-to-move) as Moyes looks at potentially bolstering his squad for the rest of the season.

It remains to be seen if Spurs are willing to sell to a city and positional rival, or if Antonio Conte wants to sell the player, whom he has started in recent games against [Liverpool and Southampton](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/131519/MatchStatistics/Dele-Alli).

### The Latest: Pundit backs move

Nonetheless, Palmer believes that Alli would thrive at the London Stadium under Moyes’ stewardship, telling [Give Me Sport](https://www.givemesport.com/1811736-west-ham-transfer-news-fresh-david-moyes-claim-emerges-over-pl-star-once-valued-at-90m) that any such move could be a success.

The 56-year-old said of the Tottenham maestro: “Could David Moyes get the best out of him? I’m sure he could do.”

### The Verdict: Possible summer switch?

In truth, it is hard to see Spurs allowing Alli to join a top-four rival in January, at a point where numerous teams are [locking horns](https://www.skysports.com/premier-league-table) in the battle for Champions League football.

A summer exit feels more likely for the [37-cap](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/dele-alli/profil/spieler/207929) England international if he is unable to prove himself to Conte, at which point West Ham may be able to swoop.

At 25, there is still time for Alli to overcome his slump and reach his potential, having scored [18 Premier League goals](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/131519/History/Dele-Alli) back in 2016/17 and being [hailed](https://www.football.london/tottenham-hotspur-fc/players/ian-wright-praises-dele-alli-21376822) as ‘fantastic’ by Ian Wright. Also, given how Moyes helped to [reinvigorate Jesse Lingard](https://www.independent.ie/sport/soccer/a-closer-look-at-jesse-lingards-spectacular-revival-since-joining-west-ham-40280636.html) last year, Palmer is right to think that the Irons boss could do the same for another English midfielder.
