Spurs’ head coach was repaid for guiding them to a[Premier League](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/premier-league-news/) top-four finish as sporting director Fabio Paratici [sealed summer moves](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/tottenham-hotspur/transfers/verein/148) for Ivan Perisic, Fraser Forster, Yves Bissouma, Richarlison, Clement Lenglet, Djed Spence, Destiny Udogie and a permanent deal for Cristian Romero.

Ahead of January, the north Londoners are reportedly monitoring other targets, [including](https://www.teamtalk.com/tottenham-hotspur/conte-blockbuster-james-maddison-move-brendan-rodgers-accepts-transfer-reality-price-tag-emerges) Leicester City playmaker James Maddison.

Now, as per reliable reporter Nixon, some news has come to light on a former Spurs player they are seemingly targeting.

### The Latest: Tottenham could re-sign Cirkin…

Tottenham, and Paratici by extension, are said to be eyeing a move for Sunderland defender and their former youth star Cirkin.

Writing for [The Sun](https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/20118829/dennis-cirkin-transfer-brentford-tottenham-sunderland/), Nixon claims that Spurs are ‘tracking’ the 20-year-old alongside top-flight rivals Brentford, and the player could have a decision to make as the Black Cats consider potentially cashing in.

This comes after the north London club ‘surprisingly let him go’ last summer.

### The Verdict: Wise move?

The 20-year-old has impressed since moving to Sunderland from Spurs and has carried on this season with some solid defensive returns.

Cirkin currently [ranks](https://www.whoscored.com/Teams/16/Show/England-Sunderland) among Sunderland’s top four players for interceptions, clearances and blocks per game, with journalists like Phil Smith calling the youngster a [‘machine’](https://twitter.com/Phil__Smith/status/1561019683503063041) for some of his performances.

Homegrown and familiar with the club, it’s no surprise that Paratici and co are considering a move to bring the youngster back to Hotspur Way.
