# Derby County: Colin Kazim-Richards wants contract extension

**In a recent article from [The Athletic](https://theathletic.com/2154663/2020/12/14/colin-kazim-richards-derby/), it was revealed that Derby County forward Colin Kazim-Richards hopes to extend his Rams contract by another year.**

Kazim-Richards [moved to Pride Park in October following his departure from Mexican side CF Pachuca](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/colin-kazim-richards/transfers/spieler/36802) in August and it may be fair to say he’s played a fairly prominent role for the club since then, featuring in [all but three](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/colin-kazim-richards/leistungsdaten/spieler/36802) of the Rams’ Championship fixtures since his arrival.

### **What exactly has The Athletic revealed about Kazim-Richards’ contract hopes?**

In this report, it was revealed that the 34-year-old, whose Rams deal is [set to expire at the end of this season](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/colin-kazim-richards/profil/spieler/36802), ‘would be more than happy’ to extend his stay at the club by another year.

It would seem as though Kazim-Richards is certainly enjoying his time at Pride Park, as it is also claimed that he would even be willing to take a pay cut in order to secure a Rams contract extension.

### **A key player for Derby County**

While Kazim-Richards only joined the Rams in October, he’s a key player for the Championship side, as he is currently one of only two natural centre-forwards in the Rams’ first-team, [per Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/derby-county/kadernachposition/verein/22).

Additionally, though he’s managed just [two goal contributions in his 11 league appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/colin-kazim-richards/leistungsdaten/spieler/36802) for Derby so far, Kazim-Richards has become something of a cult hero, with his on-the-pitch leadership, in particular, emerging as a positive to his game according to this report from The Athletic.

As a result, it would do the Rams no harm to tie Kazim-Richards down to a longer-term deal, and his stance about staving off an exit in 2021 should be considered a big boost.
