Derby County have started the campaign in horrid form and the loss yesterday to Bristol City suggests the sacking of Phillip Cocu has not helped.
The Rams are still hunting for a new manager and former Huddersfield Town boss Danny Cowley has given his opinion on who he thinks could be a candidate.
What Cowley had to say about Derby and their managerial hunt
Via EFL on Quest, Cowley said: “Rafa would be the dream and if they could find someone like that that’s been at the very top level and is a technical genius then that would be fantastic”
Benitez would be a great appointment for the club
The Spaniard has a great CV, especially in England, as he won the FA Cup and Champions League with Liverpool. He also has experience of the Championship, earning promotion as champions during his time at Newcastle.
In that season, the Magpies managed to have more shots on target than any other Championship side (237). They also scored the second-most goals in the league at the time (80), disputing the reputation Benitez is often given as a defensive-minded manager.
With Derby only scoring five goals this season so far, Benitez could be the ideal replacement for Cocu and now Wayne Rooney, and with his abundance of experience across Europe, there is no doubt that he would start pushing them further up the Championship table.
