A lot of Derby County fans have flocked to a post from The Telegraph’s John Percy which relayed the news that Liverpool ‘are closing in on the signing’ of 16-year-old Rams academy product Kaide Gordon.
As explained by Percy, the attacking midfielder is viewed as being ‘one of the best at his age.’
While he clarified that the deal isn’t done yet, the journalist did also state that it’s ‘heading that way.’
This news comes after Derby County manager Wayne Rooney was full of praise for Gordon in late-December (3:20) after handing him his first-team debut versus Birmingham City, explaining that he made that decision because Gordon impressed in training after he was introduced to the first-team setup.
So, how have these Derby County fans been reacting to Percy’s update?
Percy’s post drew a negative reaction from many fans of the East Midlands club. In his tweet, Percy explained that the Rams would receive £1m for Gordon, with that fee potentially rising to £3m, and plenty of Derby supporters shared that they feel this transfer fee is not high enough.
Indeed, if Gordon turns out to be a superstar down the line on Merseyside, then £3m could look like pennies in the long run. Check out their reactions down below…
“Pathetic…. rising to only £3 mill! Cmn”
“Joke of a club.”
“If derby let him go for 1 MILLION they have been robbed”
“1m won’t make a difference to the financial problems we got”
“Absolute disgrace. 2nd time a big club has raided our academy.”
“Ridiculous fee…1m in this day and age is a joke…it’s a months wages for a top prem player”
“That’s paying January’s wages then. What a grim situation. Such a shame.”
Is this a good deal for Derby?
