# Sunderland: Black Cats ‘keen’ on Ravel Morrison

**[Sunderland](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/sunderland-afc-news/) are reportedly now ‘keen’ on signing Derby County midfielder Ravel Morrison this summer.**

### The Lowdown: Derby revival

Morrison was able to revive his footballing career at Derby County last season, where he scored five goals and made a further four assists in 38 games in total over all competitions ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ravel-morrison/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/128907/plus/0?saison=2021&verein=&liga=&wettbewerb=&pos=&trainer_id=)).

His [attitude has been put into question](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2785636/HARRY-REDKNAPP-Ravel-Morrison-class-Gareth-Bale-attitude-holding-talent.html) throughout his career, and at 29 years of age now, it is a case of what could have been for the former Manchester United Academy starlet.

### The Latest: Sunderland ‘keen’

Taking to Twitter, journalist [Pete O’Rourke](https://twitter.com/SportsPeteO/status/1540241505100697600) has revealed that the Stadium of Light outfit are now ‘keen’ on signing Morrison, whose contract with the Rams expires at the [end of the month](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ravel-morrison/profil/spieler/128907).

Championship rivals Preston North End and Huddersfield Town are also in the mix.

### The Verdict: Worth the risk

Of course, it is a risk for any club to sign Morrison given his past, but he seems to have cleaned up his act now, and so signing him on a free is worth a punt for Alex Neil’s team.

Former Sheffield United teammate Enda Stevens claims that he still has a ‘[wow factor](https://www.examinerlive.co.uk/sport/football/news/he-just-wow-sheffield-united-21673264)‘, while Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville once dubbed his ability a ‘[scandal](https://talksport.com/football/489447/ravel-morrison-sir-alex-ferguson-best-ever-seen-went-wrong/)‘ upon reflection of watching him develop at Old Trafford.

There is no doubt that there is still a player in there, and it will be up to Neil to get the best out of him should he sign for the Black Cats.
