# Liverpool: Diogo Jota ready to face Brighton

**[Liverpool](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/liverpool-fc-news/) forward Diogo Jota is in contention to face Brighton after a slight scare during the week, according to Goal reporter [Neil Jones](https://twitter.com/neiljonesgoal/status/1575827820131000322?s=20&t=pWa2b5dJyMYBH4As6ri1Lg).**

### The lowdown

The Reds are due to play their first Premier League game since 3 September this afternoon when they welcome Roberto De Zerbi’s Brighton to Anfield.

Jota, who was called up to the Portugal squad for the recent internationals, [missed training on Thursday](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/liverpool-injury-boost-training-breaking-25137194) ahead of the Seagulls’ visit, as did fellow attackers Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez.

The 25-year-old only made his [first start](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/diogo-jota/leistungsdaten/spieler/340950) of the season against Ajax last time out, having missed the beginning of the campaign with a hamstring injury.

### The latest

In this excerpt from a [pre-match injury update on Twitter](https://twitter.com/neiljonesgoal/status/1575827820131000322?s=20&t=pWa2b5dJyMYBH4As6ri1Lg), Jones confirmed that all three attackers would be ready for Saturday’s game.

### The verdict

Jota’s absence was even more worrying for Reds fans when you consider what happened on international duty.

The 25-year-old [asked to be taken off](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/liverpool-injury-boost-training-breaking-25137194) in Portugal’s clash against Spain, citing fatigue as the reason, and it looked at that point like he might be a doubt for today. Indeed, journalist [Theo Squires](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/liverpool-injury-boost-training-breaking-25137194) wrote on Thursday that ‘his absence is a potential concern’ for Liverpool.

Jota is a big player for Klopp’s side, having [scored 21 goals and provided eight assists](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/diogo-jota/leistungsdaten/spieler/340950/plus/0?saison=2021) in all competitions last season.

The [£90,000-per-week](https://fbref.com/en/squads/822bd0ba/2022-2023/wages/Liverpool-Wage-Details) forward has been called ‘[exceptional](https://www.eurosport.co.uk/football/premier-league/2021-2022/liverpool-boss-jurgen-klopp-praises-exceptional-diogo-jota-after-goal-heroics-in-southampton-premier_sto8646562/story.shtml)‘ and ‘[world-class](https://www.independent.ie/sport/soccer/he-has-turned-into-a-really-world-class-striker-klopp-full-of-praise-for-on-fire-diogo-jota-41263315.html)‘ by Klopp, while former Premier League winner Ray Parlour has dubbed him ‘[unbelievable](https://www.football365.com/news/parlour-makes-haaland-claim-praise-jota-liverpool-unbelievable)‘, so it is very welcome to hear that the Portugal star could be in action this afternoon despite his recent fitness worries.
