# Tottenham: Dost reveals why he snubbed Spurs

Bas Dost has revealed that a lack of potential game-time was the reason why he snubbed a move to Tottenham during the summer.

### **Dost chooses Frankfurt stay**

Spurs were [linked](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2020/sep/15/jose-mourinho-keen-to-bring-eintracht-frankfurt-striker-bas-dost-to-tottenham) with the Netherlands international during the last transfer window as they looked for back-up striker to play second-fiddle to Harry Kane.

However, a deal for the forward failed to materialise, and Dost has now revealed why he decided to stay in the Bundesliga.

He told Bild ([via Sport Witness](https://sportwitness.co.uk/thats-something-striker-comments-spurs-mourinho-interest-reveals-really/)):

> *“I heard from my advisor that \[Tottenham\] were really there and were interested, but I don’t think it was ever an issue for me to be a regular there, and I just want to play”.*
>
> *“That’s something, but if you look at my career, I’ve never left a club after just one season. Not now either, especially since I’ve only been able to show a little here. I’m far from finished with Eintracht!”*

### **Vinicius cushions the blow**

Missing out on Dost will no doubt have been a blow for Mourinho. At his current market value of [£4.95m](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/bas-dost/marktwertverlauf/spieler/56331) – as per Transfermarkt – there are few strikers who can boast such an impressive strike-rate. In [441](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/bas-dost/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/56331) career appearances, he has 231 goals, with him regularly bagging more than 20 strikes per campaign. He has started this current season rather well too, managing three goals and three assists in four matches.

In the end, though, Spurs got the striking option they were looking for in Carlos Vinicius. The Brazilian was in fantastic form for Benfica last season, netting [24](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/carlos-vinicius/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/525287) times in 47 games, and at 25-years-old, he has plenty of time left ahead of him. The deal is initially a loan, with Tottenham having a purchase option of [£41m](https://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/tottenham-agree-vinicius-loan-from-benfica-with-41m-option/y0sjbfzqim4z1al9rqp1p8hqz). It is now up to Vinicius to prove to Mourinho that he is worth that kind of money.
