# Tottenham: Alasdair Gold shares Paulo Dybala update

**Reliable [Tottenham Hotspur](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/tottenham-hotspur-news/) journalist Alasdair Gold has shared the latest news involving soon-to-be free agent Paulo Dybala.**

### **The Lowdown: Dybala’s contract**

As reported by [Fabrizio Romano](https://twitter.com/FabrizioRomano/status/1505898174736904194) in March, the Argentina international will leave Juventus upon the expiry of his contract with the Turin club.

This news came after the Serie A giants had [originally reached a verbal agreement](https://twitter.com/FabrizioRomano/status/1505898174736904194) with the 28-year-old back in October.

After consideration, [Juve decided to change their proposal](https://twitter.com/FabrizioRomano/status/1505898174736904194), much to the disgust of Dybala, who proceeded to open talks with other clubs, having made the decision to leave after seven years with the Bianconeri.

### **The Latest: Gold’s claim on Dybala**

With [Dybala set to become a free agent in July,](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/paulo-dybala/profil/spieler/206050) Tottenham have frequently been [linked](https://talksport.com/football/1113511/tottenham-transfer-antonio-conte-paulo-dybala-targets/) with a move for the attacker.

When questioned about the validity of the Dybala rumours in [football.london](https://www.football.london/tottenham-hotspur-fc/transfer-news/bastoni-inter-tottenham-djed-spence-24150038#comments-section)’s latest Q&A, Gold claimed that it is unlikely that the Argentine will be playing in a Lilywhites shirt next season.

The journalist proclaimed: “I don’t believe so when it comes to Dybala. I understand Paratici does not believe he’s the best fit for a Conte Tottenham and Spurs’ managing director of football was one of those keen on moving Dybala out of Juventus back in the summer of 2019.”

### **The Verdict: Good player but not the right move**

Whilst Dybala has been hailed as a [‘special’](https://sportmob.com/en/news/23680-legends-praise-special-dybala) player for his time with a [dominant](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/paulo-dybala/erfolge/spieler/206050) Juventus outfit, the Argentina international may just not be the right signing for Antonio Conte’s side.

With Harry Kane being a [guaranteed starter](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/83532/History/Harry-Kane) up front for Tottenham, the 28-year-old could end up playing second fiddle if he were to arrive at Hotspur Way.

For example, when compared with positional peers across Europe over the past year, Kane ranks in the [93rd percentile](https://fbref.com/en/players/21a66f6a/Harry-Kane) for non-penalty expected goals plus expected assists, whereas Dybala comes in at the [56th percentile](https://fbref.com/en/players/e0921a4f/Paulo-Dybala) for the same statistic (via FBRef).

Furthermore, with [Heung-min Son and Dejan Kulusevski](https://www.spurs-web.com/spurs-news/going-very-well-for-all-three-kulusevski-opens-up-on-playing-with-kane-and-son/) also having enjoyed fantastic seasons playing in Spurs’ attack, there doesn’t appear to be room in Conte’s side for Dybala.
