**The Transfer Tavern is at its best when the punters, no matter who they support are crowded round in wide eyed wonderment, waxing poetic about the prospect of a world star arriving in the Premier League.**

Though in the current landscape of European football, that may prove to be a wishful thought.

In fact it is.

According to the [Daily Mirror](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/neymar-sign-new-barcelona-deal-8004269?), Barcelona megastar Neymar is set to put an end to the constant Manchester United speculation by agreeing a new deal with the Catalan giants.

The brilliant Brazilian has long been [linked](https://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport/football/6920624/Manchester-City-and-Manchester-United-will-go-head-to-head-to-make-Neymar-their-No-1-poster-boy.html) with a blockbuster move to Old Trafford, as well as noisy neighbours Manchester City.

However, it is [understood](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/neymar-sign-new-barcelona-deal-8004269?) that the 24-year old is nearing an agreement with the *Blaugrana* that would see him extend his stay there until he is 30.

Financial restrictions were [believed](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/neymar-sign-new-barcelona-deal-8004269?) to have been a stickler for the La Liga champions, though the former Santos prodigy is [thought](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/neymar-sign-new-barcelona-deal-8004269?) to have moved up to behind only Lionel Messi in terms of pay at the Camp Nou.

**Did United ever really have any hope of landing Neymar in the slightest?**
