# Everton: Adam Jones criticises Anthony Gordon

**The Liverpool Echo journalist Adam Jones claimed that Anthony Gordon was ‘trying a bit too hard’ for [Everton](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/everton-fc-news/) in their game at home to Nottingham Forest.**

### The Lowdown: Frustrating

It was another frustrating afternoon for the Goodison Park outfit, as they only managed to draw the match 1-1 through a late Demarai Gray equaliser.

They had [plenty](https://www.sofascore.com/everton-nottingham-forest/osY) of chances to find the back of the net, but in the end Frank Lampard’s team were simply not ruthless enough once again.

### The Latest: Gordon frustrations

Taking to Twitter, [Jones](https://twitter.com/Adam_Jones94/status/1561008213625081857) claimed that Gordon was ‘trying a bit too hard’ in the game, after sending a ‘wildly speculative’ shot towards Forest’s goal:

*“Gordon with a wildly speculative effort that he doesn’t catch hold of and it’s easily blocked Get the feeling he’s trying a bit too hard to do something today.”*

### The Verdict: Speculation affecting him?

You have to wonder whether the [speculation](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/everton-fc-news/chelsea-transfer-news-gordon-premier-league/) surrounding Gordon and a potential move to Chelsea is affecting him on the pitch.

The winger lost out on a mammoth 17 of his 20 duels, while he was also unsuccessful with all six of his dribble attempts, gave two fouls away, and lost possession a total of 16 times ([SofaScore](https://www.sofascore.com/everton-nottingham-forest/osY)).

Right now, regardless of whether his future is uncertain or not, the Merseyside club need him to perform, as that is now three games without a win in the Premier League.

Gordon needs to get back to basics, and if he improves on his performances, he could well earn a move to Stamford Bridge.
