# Everton: Allan signs for Al Wahda on permanent deal

**Allan has left [Everton](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/everton-fc-news/) and signed for Abu Dhabi-based Al Wahda on a permanent deal, with Fabrizio Romano [taking to Twitter](https://twitter.com/FabrizioRomano/status/1574145617646870528) to relay the news late on Sunday night.**

### **The Lowdown: Allan’s Toffees career**

With former Toffees manager Carlo Ancelotti [wanting to reunite with](https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/54040760#:~:text=top%20priority%20signing) the defensive midfielder, with whom he worked at Napoli, the Brazilian joined the Merseyside club in 2020 in a [deal worth £21.7m](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/54040760).

During his two-year tenure at Goodison Park, the 31-year-old made [57 appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/allan/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/126422) for the Toffees, 52 of which came in the [Premier League](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/premier-league-news/).

However, under Frank Lampard’s reign, Allan featured just [13 times](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/allan/leistungsdatentrainer/spieler/126422/plus/0/trainer_id/60805) for the club, failing to make a single appearance in the [2022/23 season](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/allan/leistungsdaten/spieler/126422) as he was continually snubbed by the manager.

### **The Latest: Allan’s move**

Romano has shared news of Allan’s departure from Merseyside.

Taking to [Twitter](https://twitter.com/FabrizioRomano/status/1574145617646870528) on Sunday night, the reliable journalist stated: “Brazilian midfielder Allan has signed with Al Wahda on permanent deal from Everton. #transfers

“Medical completed and contracts signed in the last few hours, Allan leaves the Premier League. #EFC”

### **The Verdict: Replaced by younger talent**

After a decent first season with Everton as a [regular](https://www.whoscored.com/Teams/31/Archive/England-Everton?stageId=18685) under Ancelotti’s guidance, Allan seemed to be a strong signing for the Blues, who came in as one of the club’s highest-paid players on [£120,000 per week](https://salarysport.com/football/premier-league/everton-f.c./).

However, his [propensity for injuries](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/allan/verletzungen/spieler/126422) and [decreasing levels of athleticism](https://www.toffeeweb.com/season/22-23/news/42665.html#:~:text=lack%20of%20speed%20and%20dynamism) meant that he fell further down Lampard’s pecking order at the club, leading to some journalists issuing unforgiving labels such as [‘imposter’](https://twitter.com/daviddownie17/status/1495063078832156673?s=21) towards the Brazilian.

With the likes of Amadou Onana and James Garner, accompanied by the [highly experienced](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/idrissa-gueye/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/126665) Idrissa Gueye, [joining the club](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/fc-everton/transfers/verein/29) this summer, the Toffees clearly turned their attention to the long-term future of the squad.

Therefore, Allan’s departure will not come as a big surprise for Everton fans, as the club now seem to be on a different trajectory this season.
