**The long-term future of [Everton](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/everton-fc-news/) winger Anthony Gordon is still in doubt, according to journalist Paul Brown.**

### **The Lowdown: Gordon’s transfer request**

Amid heavy [transfer interest](https://talksport.com/football/1178264/frank-lampard-confirms-chelsea-interest-anthony-gordon-transfer-news/) from Chelsea towards the end of the summer window, the 21-year-old informed the Merseyside outfit and manager Frank Lampard that he [wanted to leave](https://theathletic.com/3530603/2022/08/23/anthony-gordon-everton-chelsea-transfer/) the club and join the west London giants.

[The Athletic](https://theathletic.com/3530603/2022/08/23/anthony-gordon-everton-chelsea-transfer/) reported Chelsea’s willingness to spend £50m, with a further £10m in add-ons, for the attacker.

However, [Lampard was adamant](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-11162475/Frank-Lampard-insists-Anthony-Gordon-staying-Goodison-Park.html) Gordon would remain with the club, having already lost Richarlison this summer.

### **The Latest: Brown’s claim**

Brown believes there is still serious doubt as to where Gordon’s long-term future lies. As a result, he has urged the Toffees to end the speculation by getting the youngster to sign a new and improved deal with the club.

Speaking with [GiveMeSport](https://www.givemesport.com/88061750-everton-doubts-over-67-game-stars-future-at-goodison-park), the journalist claimed:

“So, there is still some doubt about his long-term future.

“And I think Everton should be doing everything they can to convince him that they are the right club for him and that he should stick around for a bit longer.”

### **The Verdict: Crucial to Everton**

With Everton’s lack of attacking threat, Gordon’s goal-scoring ability has proven crucial for Lampard’s side in recent times, with the youngster having [scored half](https://www.espn.com/soccer/team/stats/_/id/368/scoring) of their [Premier League](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/premier-league-news/) goals thus far this season.

Illustrated by his positional-peer ranking in the top one percent for blocks and in the top four percent for pressures and tackles made across Europe (via [FBRef)](https://fbref.com/en/players/2bd83368/Anthony-Gordon), the 21-year-old has also been hailed for his defensive work ethic and desire to win the ball back across the pitch.

Dubbed an [‘absolute beast’](https://twitter.com/JeffWallner/status/1306337506024189954) by journalist Jeff Wallner, the Toffees should do everything they can to tie the starlet down to a new long-term deal.
