# Everton: Toffees backed to sign Ben Brereton Diaz before Thursday

**[Everton](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/everton-fc-news/) are likely to secure the signing of Blackburn Rovers striker Ben Brereton Diaz before Thursday’s transfer deadline, according to journalist Jacque Talbot.**

### **The Lowdown: Maupay’s arrival**

With Toffees manager Frank Lampard desperate to sign a striker after the departure of Richarlison earlier in the summer, the Blues set to work on a number of possible targets.

After a multitude of bids were made for [various forwards](https://royalbluemersey.sbnation.com/2022/8/11/23300079/everton-transfer-rumours-strikers-broja-chelsea-che-adams-gyokeres-guirassy-ajorque-kalajdzic-moffi), Everton recently completed the signing of Neal Maupay from [Premier League](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/premier-league-news/) rivals Brighton in a deal worth [£15m](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-11150537/Everton-CONFIRM-signing-Brighton-striker-Neal-Maupay-three-year-deal.html).

The 26-year-old signed a [three-year contract](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-11150537/Everton-CONFIRM-signing-Brighton-striker-Neal-Maupay-three-year-deal.html) with the Merseyside club, with the option of extending this by a further year in 2025.

### **The Latest: One more striker**

Despite the arrival of Maupay at Goodison Park, Everton reportedly remain in the market for another striker. According to [90min](https://www.90min.com/posts/everton-closing-in-on-ben-brereton-diaz-deal), the Toffees are looking to close a deal for Brereton Diaz before the Thursday night deadline.

With talks also progressing for [Serhou Guirassy](https://www.90min.com/posts/everton-hold-talks-rennes-striker-serhou-guirassy), Talbot has shared his verdict on Everton’s transfer situation.

Speaking with [GiveMeSport](https://www.givemesport.com/88053062-everton-20m-star-is-number-one-target-after-maupay-at-goodison-park) about the likelihood of the Toffees signing the Rennes striker, the journalist claimed: “Yes, if they can’t get Brereton Diaz. He’s not the best player, but he will certainly be one they’re looking at.

“I don’t think he’s the number one target – I think that’s Brereton Diaz, of Blackburn. I imagine that will get done, which makes a lot of sense.”

### **The Verdict: Would be a strong signing**

Despite a lack of [Premier League experience](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ben-brereton-diaz/detaillierteleistungsdaten/spieler/426192) for Brereton Diaz, the Toffees would be adding a proven goalscorer from the English footballing pyramid to their ranks.

In 37 appearances in the Championship last season, the Chile international netted an incredible [22 goals](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ben-brereton-diaz/leistungsdaten/spieler/426192/plus/0?saison=2021), bringing his overall tally in the second tier to [41 goals](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ben-brereton-diaz/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/426192/wettbewerb/GB2) in 176 appearances.

At just 23 years of age, the striker would still have plenty of time to adjust to the rigours of the top flight, so sealing a deal for the youngster could be shrewd business for Everton in the long-run.

Therefore, if the Blues are able to get a deal across the line before Thursday’s transfer cut-off, Brereton Diaz could be a brilliant addition to Lampard’s squad, especially given Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s [injury troubles](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/dominic-calvert-lewin/verletzungen/spieler/306024).
