# Everton: Blues ‘extremely keen’ on Billy Gilmour

**[Everton](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/everton-fc-news/) are reportedly ‘extremely keen’ on signing Chelsea midfielder Billy Gilmour this summer, according to journalist [Fraser Fletcher](https://twitter.com/frazfletcher/status/1554799974784929793?s=21&t=Lq8zBiRWm-kJQbZ2EGwYYw).**

### The lowdown: Heavily linked

The Toffees have been [heavily linked](https://twitter.com/FrazFletcher/status/1549006999572054016?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1549006999572054016%7Ctwgr%5E%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.goodisonnews.com%2Fcore%2Fwp-admin%2Fpost.php%3Fpost%3D39244action%3Dedit) with a move for Gilmour throughout the ongoing transfer window, with some reports [suggesting](https://talksport.com/football/1154489/transfer-notebook-deals-west-ham-watford-newcastle-everton-southampton-aston-villa/) that Frank Lampard had previously been given the green light to bring the youngster to Goodison Park.

However, the 21-year-old former Glasgow Rangers [academy prospect](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/billy-gilmour/transfers/spieler/423744) remains in London ahead of the new Premier League season getting underway this weekend following a [disappointing 2021/22 campaign](https://www.norfolklive.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/norwich-billy-gilmour-prediction-chelsea-7141962) whilst on loan at Norwich City.

Now it appears as though Everton are finally ready to step up their attempts to bring Gilmour to Goodison Park…

### The latest: ‘Enquiries’

Taking to [Twitter](https://twitter.com/frazfletcher/status/1554799974784929793?s=21&t=Lq8zBiRWm-kJQbZ2EGwYYw), journalist Fletcher has claimed that the Merseyside outfit have made ‘enquires’ regarding the [15-cap](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/billy-gilmour/nationalmannschaft/spieler/423744/verein_id/3380) Scotland international.

He stated: “Everton extremely keen on getting Billy Gilmour on loan. As I’ve said before Frank Lampard is a huge fan and Chelsea ready to hear proposal for season long loan. Enquiries have already been made, full negotiations to begin shortly.”

Fletcher continued: “Lots of clubs also considering Gilmour bid but Lampard and Everton to move first.”

### The verdict: Get it done

Having sold talismanic forward Richarlison to Tottenham, so far this summer the Blues have only managed to [add](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/fc-everton/transfers/verein/29) James Tarkowski, Dwight McNeil and Ruben Vinagre to a squad that avoid relegation by the [narrowest of margins](https://www.premierleague.com/tables?co=1&se=418&ha=-1) last term.

On the eve of the 2022/23 season getting underway, that’s a worrying state of affairs and the interest in the likes of Gilmour, [Armando Broja](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/everton-fc-news/chelsea-transfer-news-broja-striker-calvert-lewin/) and [Idrissa Gueye](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/everton-fc-transfer-rumours/everton-idrissa-gana-gueye-allan-transfer-gossip-news-updates/) needs to turn into something tangible sooner rather than later if Lampard is going to be able to compete, particularly in light of the Dominic Calvert-Lewin [injury news](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2022/aug/03/everton-dominic-calvert-lewin-faces-month-out-knee-injury) this week.

\[freshpress-quiz id=”389207″\]

Operating as a defensive midfielder and in a box-to-box role, last season, Gilmour [provided two assists](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/billy-gilmour/leistungsdaten/spieler/423744/plus/0?saison=2021) in 28 appearances for a struggling Norwich side, earning a 6.82 [Sofascore](https://www.sofascore.com/player/gilmour-billy/907668) rating whilst winning 3.8 duels, making 1.0 key pass and completing 1.2 clearances on average per league outing – showcasing battling qualities to accompany his clever passing ability.

Sharing a close stylistic likeness to such top-class operators as Ruben Neves and Joao Moutinho ([Fbref](https://fbref.com/en/players/df10e27c/Billy-Gilmour)), the talented Scot – who was hailed as a [‘diamond’](https://www.footballinsider247.com/gilmour-backed-to-u-turn-on-norwich-move-and-sign-for-rangers-after-update-pundit/) by former Leeds United frontman Noel Whelan – certainly has what it takes to be a success in the Premier League.

Albeit only likely to be a loan deal that could see Everton take on a £43,000 per week wage ([Spotrac](https://www.spotrac.com/epl/chelsea-fc/billy-gilmour-47314/)), signing a player of Gilmour’s ilk would be a sensational coup for the Toffees and one that Lampard’s preexisting relationship will hopefully help come to fruition.
