# Everton: Fraser Fletcher shares Billy Gilmour update

**[Everton](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/everton-fc-news/) could be poised to sign Chelsea midfielder Billy Gilmour imminently, according to journalist [Fraser Fletcher](https://twitter.com/FrazFletcher/status/1549431199063572481).**

### The lowdown: Showdown talks

Following the widely [reported](https://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/chelsea-fc-broja-tuchel-injury-b1013139.html) admiration from the Toffees, Gilmour is believed to be set to hold [discussions](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2022/07/19/billy-gilmour-hold-chelsea-future-talks-thomas-tuchel-dropping/?utm_content=football&utm_medium=Social&utm_campaign=Echobox&utm_source=Twitter#Echobox=1658231951) with Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel regarding his future plans.

A product of the academy in London after making an early move from Rangers, the 21-year-old Scotland international spent the entire 2021/22 campaign [on loan](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/billy-gilmour/transfers/spieler/423744) at Norwich City but was unable to make the desired impact in East Anglia as the top flight strugglers were [relegated](https://theathletic.com/news/norwich-relegated-from-premier-league-after-loss-to-villa-and-burnleys-win-over-watford/I6Jze2wc5LCW/) back to the Championship at the first time of asking.

Now, a fresh claim has emerged suggesting that the Blues could be nearing the capture of Gilmour within a matter of days…

### The latest: ‘Could be done…’

Taking to [Twitter](https://twitter.com/FrazFletcher/status/1549431199063572481), Fletcher, who has worked for the [BBC](https://twitter.com/FrazFletcher) among others, has claimed that Everton are on the verge of capturing the [15-cap](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/billy-gilmour/nationalmannschaft/spieler/423744/verein_id/3380) starlet.

He stated: “Everton are still in contact with Chelsea over Gilmour, Lampard loves the player and could be done over next 48hrs.”

### The verdict: Fingers crossed

Alongside the [potential capture](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/everton-morgan-gibbs-white-jesse-24494437) of Morgan Gibbs-White from Wolves, Gilmour would be a superb piece of business, albeit likely to only be on a temporary basis from the outset.

Despite arriving on the senior scene with a huge splash when earning the [Man of the Match](https://www.chelseafc.com/en/video/_-every-touch--billy-gilmour-s-outstanding-performance-v-liverpo-kwcgi5aje%E2%80%A6) for a standout FA Cup display against Liverpool, the Scotsman’s previously continuous upwards career trajectory was halted somewhat last season as the cultured ace only managed [two assists](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/billy-gilmour/leistungsdaten/spieler/423744/plus/0?saison=2021) in 28 appearances across all competitions at Norwich.

However, the gifted youngster still remains hot property and would add much-needed fluidity to Frank Lampard’s options with his ability to play as a box-to-box midfielder as well as in more [attacking and defensive](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/billy-gilmour/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/423744) roles.

Described as a [‘diamond’](https://www.footballinsider247.com/gilmour-backed-to-u-turn-on-norwich-move-and-sign-for-rangers-after-update-pundit/) by former Premier League striker Noel Whelan amidst links with a return to Rangers, Gilmour – who shares similar stylistic traits with Wolves duo Joao Moutinho and Ruben Neves ([Fbref](https://fbref.com/en/players/df10e27c/Billy-Gilmour)) – would be a sensational coup for Kevin Thelwell and the Goodison Park hierarchy.
