# Everton: Blues interested in Juventus defender Merih Demiral

**Everton are interested in Juventus defender Merih Demiral, as they look to up their summer recruitment drive \[[Sport Witness](https://sportwitness.co.uk/everton-watching-player-euros-interested-will-sold-summer/) via Calcio Mercato\].**

### The Lowdown: Everton reshape ahead of 2021/22

With pre-season just around the corner, the Toffees are still managerless after Carlo Ancelotti’s shock return to Real Madrid \[[BBC](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/57321150)\].

Nevertheless, the transfer merry-go-round does not stop. The Blues have been heavily linked with the likes of [Matheus Nunes](https://www.hitc.com/en-gb/2021/06/13/report-everton-very-close-to-signing-newcastle-united-target-matheus-nunes/) and [Pedro Neto](https://www.teamtalk.com/news/everton-nuno-espirito-santo-appointment-follow-up-double-wolves-raid) in recent weeks.

However, they now seem to have set their eyes on the 23-year-old Turkish international as they look to restructure ahead of 2021/22.

### The Latest: Everton ‘watching’ Demiral, ‘very interested’ in signing him

Presently, Everton are said to be currently ‘watching’ the central-defender at the European Championships, with his current employers being open to offers for his signature \[[Sport Witness](https://www.teamtalk.com/news/everton-nuno-espirito-santo-appointment-follow-up-double-wolves-raid)\].

Furthermore, the Merseyside giants are understood to be ‘very interested’ in his services \[[Sport Witness](https://sportwitness.co.uk/everton-watching-player-euros-interested-will-sold-summer/)\]. Previously valued at around €40 million, he could leave for significantly less after falling down the pecking order at the Old Lady \[[Liverpool Echo](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/everton-transfer-news-manager-live-20805146)\].

### The Verdict: Demiral would be an excellent fit for the Toffees

Undoubtedly, Demiral would be a high profile signing for the Toffees as they look to improve on their 10th placed finish last time out in the Premier League \[[ESPN](https://www.espn.co.uk/football/table)\].

In 2020/21, he made 24 appearances for the Turin based side as they secured UEFA Champions League qualification on the final day of the campaign \[[BBC](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/57223565)\].

Encouragingly for Everton supporters, the Turk made an average of 2.6 clearances per 90 minutes across last year \[[WhoScored](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/362555/Show/Merih-Demiral)\].

To put this into perspective, this was the second-highest average rate out of the entire Juventus first-team squad \[[WhoScored](https://www.whoscored.com/Teams/87/Show/Italy-Juventus)\].

Given his relatively young age, Demiral could potentially be a key figure at Goodison Park for years to come should he make the move to Goodison Park. Everton should look to press ahead and get the deal over the line.
