# Everton: Dominic Calvert-Lewin opens up over ‘extremely disappointing’ 3-2 Brighton loss

**It was the stuff of nightmares for Everton on Saturday following their weekend clash with Brighton, and striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin has spoken of his side’s frustrations as the Toffees fell to a [3-2 defeat right at the death](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uNgviY3LEXg).**

After Pascal Gross’ free-kick opened the scoring, the Toffees managed to gain a 74th-minute lead thanks to Adam Webster’s own goal and Calvert-Lewin’s strike putting them ahead.

However, things got worse when VAR gifted Brighton a penalty for a Michael Keane foul as Neal Maupay slotted home the equaliser – before Lucas Digne deflected the ball into his own net to gift Brighton a shock 3-2 victory.

Everton players and fans were left bewildered by the result, just as they were on course to potentially make it two wins in a row.

Following the scarring 90 minutes, Calvert-Lewin opened up on the feelings behind the scenes after a weekend to forget, [talking to Everton’s official website](https://www.evertonfc.com/news/1469358/calvert-lewin-players-unbelievably-frustrated-by-brighton-loss) about the frustration in the dressing room.

“We’re unbelievably frustrated to go in the lead so late on and then to end up not even coming away with a draw,” explained the striker.

“It’s extremely disappointing for the lads and the club.

“I’m extremely disappointed and the mood in the dressing room is disappointed but we’ve got a massive game on Tuesday that we need to concentrate on now and get going again.”

The 22-year-old forward had put the Toffees in front after coming on as a substitute, with the Englishman scoring [three goals in eight league appearances](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/141469/Show/Dominic-Calvert-Lewin) so far this campaign, as per WhoScored.

If his side have any hope of turning this form around and challenging for a top-six place, they’ll need his influence now more than ever.
