# Everton: Fans criticise former Blue Mikel Arteta after his start as Arsenal manager

**Loads of Everton fans have been criticising former Toffees’ midfielder Mikel Arteta after a tough start to life in management.**

The Spanish coach was appointed as the successor to his fellow countryman Unai Emery in [December](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/50817660) after previously captaining the club during his playing career. He left Manchester City as Pep Guardiola’s No. 2 to embark on his own coaching adventure in north London but has [struggled to get the Gunners flowing](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2020/02/03/mikel-arteta-struggling-get-arsenal-flowing-attacking-force/) during his first handful of games in charge.

Arteta has managed just nine first-team games and has a points-per-match figure of 1.56 (according to [TransferMarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/mikel-arteta/profil/trainer/47620)), with just three wins and five draws during that time. The Toffees were [linked](https://inews.co.uk/sport/football/premier-league/next-arsenal-manager-arsene-wenger-mikel-arteta-support-everton-fc-1346099) with former skipper to make a return to Goodison Park before hiring the three-time Champions League winner Carlo Ancelotti instead. Indeed, supporters were not impressed with Arteta’s record and made their feelings clear on social media.

One fan said that he reminds him of Marco Silva, while another stated that he cannot understand the praise that he has been receiving, following his former boss making some [positive comments](https://metro.co.uk/2020/02/03/pep-guardiola-rates-mikel-artetas-start-arsenal-12172277/) about him.

Check out some of the best comments from Everton fans down below…

> Can’t understand the praise he’s getting, he definitely shouldn’t be getting the blame, but to be praising him is madness

> Smacks of Silva tbh.. has been starting games well with energy but once a few chances missed they fade away through games and end up the worse side.. he will need time to learn.

> I’m staggered that they have only won 6 league games all season.
