# Everton: Fans delighted as Paul Joyce reveals that Mason Holgate is in line for a new contract

**Loads of Everton fans have been reacting to the news that defender Mason Holgate could be in line for a new contract at Goodison Park.**

The 23-year-old has had a stunning season for the Toffees and has cemented his place in the first team under the watchful eye of manager Carlo Ancelotti. He proved to be key as his side came from two goals down to beat Watford [3-2](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/51246503) on Saturday at Vicarage Road, as per the [Liverpool Echo](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/how-fantastic-mason-holgate-proved-17675381). Former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson recognised how important the former Barnsley defender has been and dubbed him as one of Everton’s best players (per [Football Insider](https://www.footballinsider247.com/brilliant-exclusive-robinson-drools-over-improved-everton-player-who-started-v-newcastle/)).

Paul Joyce of The Times revealed on Twitter (via [@\_pauljoyce](https://twitter.com/_pauljoyce/status/1224301652506742784)) that the Englishman will be rewarded for his efforts by being offered a new contract. As Holgate possesses the ‘[snide factor](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/premier-league/everton/everton-fans-heap-praise-on-mason-holgates-improvement-under-carlo-ancelotti/)‘ that the Gwladys Street faithful adores, he continues to make huge leaps and bounds. Indeed, he has averaged 1.7 tackles, 3.5 clearances and 1.3 interceptions during the current campaign, as per [Whoscored](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/297544/Show/Mason-Holgate).

Supporters believed that he fully deserves a new deal on Merseyside and made their feelings clear on social media. One fan said that the club should make it their first priority to tie Holgate down, while another applauded him by stating that he fully deserves a longer deal.
