# Everton: Fans fight back against Tom Davies criticism

**Everton fans have [stuck up](https://twitter.com/thegwladysst/status/1192438002829672455?s=12) for the under-fire Tom Davies despite the Toffees’ sitting 17th in the Premier League table.**

The 21-year-old has found himself [lacking](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/tom-davies/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/314210) game time this season and under the spotlight despite being played in a [deeper role](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/tom-davies/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/314210/plus/0?saison=2019&verein=&liga=&wettbewerb=&pos=&trainer_id=) in Marco Silva’s side.

The England U21 international captained the young Lions during a [3-2](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-7436703/Turkey-U21-2-3-England-U21-Nketiah-scores-twice-Three-Lions-come-beat-Turkey.html) victory against Turkey back in September. However, the Portuguese manager has preferred to play him in defensive midfield alongside Andre Gomes or Morgan Schneiderlin.

Gomes sustained a [fractured dislocation](https://www.evertonfc.com/news/1482871/gomes-injury-update) against Spurs and is expected to be out for a considerable amount of time, meaning that Davies could play as much as he did during the [2017/18](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/tom-davies/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/314210) campaign.

The unfortunate injury could mean that Davies could play in a more [advanced](https://www.evertonfc.com/news/1486807/silva-explains-why-midfielder-davies-is-proving-him-right) role as he did against Spurs. He has received criticism from supporters for passing sideways too often and compared to a “crab”.

> So Silva has confirmed that Delph is a “big doubt” for the game Saturday. So a possible midfield 3 of Sigurdsson, Davies & Schneiderlin could be on the cards.

Fans disagreed with this view and made their feelings clear on social media defending the Finch Farm graduate.

Here are some of the best comments from Everton fans:

> Davies is the anti crab – never seen a midfielder pass it forward to often

> Harsh on Davies that. Been our best midfielder since he come back into the side, and he passes forward.

> In what world is Davies a crab? Our only mifielder that wants to move the ball forward quickly…

> Would much rather have Davies an Sigurdsson in the midfield tbh, Delph is up there with Schneiderlin with being a crab. Davies has arguably been one of our best midfielders when brought in this season an yeah Sigurdsson slows it down but adds something to the team, Delph doesn’t.
