# Everton: Fans issue Wayne Rooney with Premier League verdict

**Plenty of Everton fans have responded to a tweet asking them where Wayne Rooney fits into a ‘best Premier League player of all-time’ debate.**

Now 34 and playing in the Championship for Derby County, Rooney began his career with Everton almost 18 years ago.

[Making his debut against Southampton in 2002](https://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/eng_prem/1938533.stm), Rooney made an immediate impression, and he would go on to have two successful seasons at Goodison Park before gaining interest from Manchester United.

[Moving to Old Trafford in 2004](https://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/3607620.stm), the Croxteth born striker would go on to have un-precedented success with the Red Devils, [netting 253 goals in 559 games](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/wayne-rooney/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/3332) which would see him win the Premier League five times and a single Champions League title honour.

Such good performances and consistency would see Rooney feature heavily for England, [gaining over 100 international caps](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/29964707), before an exit from Man United would see him return to boyhood club Everton in 2017.

Spending a season with the Toffees, the former England striker would then have a spell in Major League Soccer, before returning to England with Derby earlier this year.

Reacting some statistics on Rooney, Twitter account @TheGwladysSt asked fans what they thought of Rooney and below are just some of the responses.
