The 30-year-old left the field after 79 minutes having failed to make a serious contribution against the Reds.

Walcott was [famously selected](https://en.wikinews.org/wiki/Theo_Walcott_is_the_big_surprise_in_Eriksson%27s_preliminary_World_Cup_squad) by former England manager Sven Goran-Eriksson to travel to the World Cup in Germany in 2006, despite not featuring for the national team.

However, he has failed to live up to his [hype](https://talksport.com/football/488650/theo-walcott-ex-arsenal-star-has-never-managed-to-fulfil-his-potential-but-did-his-england-world-cup-call-up-ruin-his-progress/) in the early days of his career and been regularly [criticised](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/theo-walcott-everton-manchester-united-15341190) since his move to Goodison Park.

Supporters were united in their frustrations towards the former England international and made their feelings clear on social media.

> That was one of many examples of how poor we were 2nd half. Has anyone got a clue what he was trying to do? Add in that cross that almost hit the corner flag. GS kicking it straight into touch from kick off set the tone for that 2nd half
