# Everton: Fans react to Gabriel update as Toffees optimistic that deal can be done

**Plenty of Everton fans have been reacting to the latest transfer update on Gabriel as [The Independent](https://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/transfers/gabriel-magalhaes-transfer-news-arsenal-manchester-united-napoli-everton-a9663901.html) have reported that there is still faint optimism that they can clinch the signature of the LOSC Lille ace in the summer window.**

As per the outlet, if Arsenal and Manchester United fail to formalise their approaches, or SSC Napoli are unwilling to buy the central defender without selling first, then the Merseyside club could well swoop in.

However, Carlo Ancelotti’s team would not be able to offer him European football, as the Red Devils can offer the 22-year old a place in their UEFA Champions League squad while the Gunners and Napoli are in the Europa League for the 2020/21 season.

This piece of news has caused confusion among several members of the Goodison Park faithful on Twitter, as they seem to be split as to whether the Brazilian is now a realistic signing for the Toffees. One even suggested that Marcel Brands is the problem when it comes to a deal for the defender, indeed his recruitment has been [criticised](https://www.footballfancast.com/premier-league/everton/fans-marcel-brands-fa-cup-liverpool) by Everton fans in the past and he isn’t the most popular figure at the club.
