# Everton: Fans react to update on Gabriel as Arsenal now lead chase

**Lots of Everton fans have been reacting to the latest transfer update on Gabriel as [France Bleu](https://www.francebleu.fr/sports/football/le-defenseur-lillois-gabriel-en-route-vers-arsenal-1596547798?xtmc=gabriel%20arsenal&xtnp=1&xtcr=1) have reported that Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal are now leading the chase to sign the LOSC Lille ace.**

As per the outlet, SSC Napoli had been in pole position to sign Gabriel for a number of weeks now and were apparently ready to offer 30 million euros for the Brazilian, which is the equivalent of around £27.1 million.

However, the Gunners now seem to be leading the chase and are currently in a position to snatch his signature.

Gabriel has been a transfer target for the Merseyside club throughout the entire summer transfer window so far as [several members of the Goodison Park faithful have called for Carlo Ancelotti to sign him before](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/everton-fc-transfer-rumours/everton-fans-gabriel-transfer-plea/).

The central defender would arguably be an upgrade on Mason Holgate, Michael Keane and Yerry Mina, having averaged the most tackles and passes in the 2019/20 Ligue 1 season compared with the others in the Premier League, according to [Whoscored](https://www.whoscored.com/PlayerComparison).

Only 22 years of age, Gabriel has a lot of potential to grow as well and make that position his own, so perhaps the Toffees should look to swoop in.

[France Bleu also do not have a track record of breaking transfer stories, and are being checked by Get French Football News (GFFN)](https://twitter.com/GFFN/status/1290672428448919555), which may also encourage some Blues as to thinking that they could still be in with a chance of signing him.

Nevertheless, these EFC supporters reacted to the news on [Twitter](https://twitter.com/TheGwladysSt/status/1290674598141362183):
