# Everton: Fans slam Ben Godfrey’s performance v West Ham

**Ben Godfrey came under fire from numerous Everton fans for his performance in Sunday’s 1-0 defeat against West Ham United.**

The 23-year-old moved into the heart of defence alongside Michael Keane, with Yerry Mina [rested](https://theathletic.com/2894954/2021/10/17/ogbonna-goal-brings-dilemma-over-missing-mina-back-into-focus-for-benitez-and-everton/?source=emp_shared_article) after playing three games in seven days for Colombia.

### Godfrey’s struggle against West Ham

Godfrey was [beaten in the air](https://twitter.com/SkySportsPL/status/1449757600371912708) by Angelo Ogbonna for West Ham’s winning goal 15 minutes from the end.

Beyond that, he finished the game with a passing accuracy of just 65.7%, ranking ninth among Everton’s starters, with only Keane and goalkeeper Jordan Pickford less precise with their distrubition (via [WhoScored](https://www.whoscored.com/Matches/1549612/LiveStatistics/England-Premier-League-2021-2022-Everton-West-Ham)). In total, [he lost possession 14 times](https://www.sofascore.com/everton-west-ham-united/MY) over the course of the game.

Rafael Benitez’s side missed a chance to climb into the Premier League’s top four and instead find themselves in eighth place ahead of their clash with Watford next weekend.

Godfrey faces a battle to retain his place for the visit of the Hornets, with Mina’s form being hailed as [‘fantastic’](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/rafa-benitez-everton-yerry-mina-21759648).

Here’s what some Everton fans made of the 23-year-old’s display at Goodison Park yesterday, with one Toffees supporter describing the defender’s [recent form](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/287504/MatchStatistics/Ben-Godfrey) as “horrendous”.
