# Everton: Fans react as Niko Kovac linked with manager’s job

**Niko Kovac has emerged as a potential candidate for the vacant manager’s role at Everton.**

[The Telegraph](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2022/01/16/rafael-benitez-sacked-everton-defeat-norwich-leaves-club-15th/?utm_content=football&utm_medium=Social&utm_campaign=Echobox&utm_source=Twitter#Echobox=1642352600)‘s Jason Burt says that the 50-year-old’s name is ‘being pushed’ as the Toffees assess their options, and the Croatian is apparently keen to have a crack at the Premier League.

Everton [sacked](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11671/12516803/rafael-benitez-everton-sack-manager-after-just-six-and-a-half-months-in-charge-following-norwich-defeat) Rafael Benitez in the wake of Saturday’s 2-1 defeat at Norwich City. It is their second managerial search in the space of eight months after [Carlo Ancelotti left](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11671/12322483/carlo-ancelotti-leaves-everton-to-re-join-real-madrid-as-head-coach) in June.

### An overview of Kovac

Kovac has managed three clubs – Eintracht Frankfurt, Bayern Munich and AS Monaco. The Croatian succeeded Jupp Heynckes at Bayern after taking Eintracht [from relegation territory](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2018/apr/13/bayern-munich-niko-kovac-new-manager) to the top half.

However, he was sacked by the Bavarian giants in November 2019, 16 months after taking charge, following a 5-1 defeat at the hands of his former club. He had managed to win a league-and-cup double in his first season at the helm in Munich (via [BBC Sport](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/50284272)).

Kovac’s next stop, in the summer of 2020, was Monaco, but he was [dismissed earlier this month](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/59849545) with the team sixth in Ligue 1.
