Everton have been dealt another injury blow before they play Arsenal away from home in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.

The Lowdown: Pickford out

Taking to Twitter, The Athletic journalist David Ornstein revealed this week that Jordan Pickford is set for a spell out with a thigh injury, meaning that he will now miss the trip to the Emirates Stadium in their next top-flight fixture.

It is hoped that the England international will only be ruled out for between three to four weeks, but it could be longer bearing in mind the time it will take for him to get back up to match speed.

The Latest: Lonergan out too

Ornstein then revealed that third-choice goalkeeper Andy Lonergan is 'also out' with a knee injury, although it is hoped that he will be back sooner than Pickford:

"Lonergan also out (knee) but should be back sooner. Begovic will cover. EFC may have taken free agent but timescales + int’l break mean unlikely."

The Verdict: Blow

It is certainly a blow to lose not one but two goalkeepers in both Pickford and Lonergan for a number of weeks.

Even though the latter has not played a senior game for the Goodison Park outfit yet, the 38-year-old still has the experience of playing 400 senior matches in English football for some well-established sides including the likes of Leeds United, Wolves and Fulham.

With Pickford out as well, Asmir Begovic remains the only senior goalkeeper available in the squad, meaning that they will now have to call up a youngster from their Academy to make up the bench against the Gunners on Sunday, which is certainly not ideal.
