Former Premier League striker Noel Whelan has claimed that Everton supporters 'would love' to see Marcelo Bielsa become their next manager.
The Lowdown: Bielsa talks
It was reported on Tuesday morning that the Goodison Park outfit 'internally discussed' making a potential move for Bielsa last week, amid 'doubts' over Frank Lampard and his future.
However, despite his proposed move to AFC Bournemouth collapsing, instead the board want to hold off Bielsa for now, and give Lampard time to turn things around during the break for the FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
The Latest: Fans 'would love' Bielsa
Speaking to Football Insider, Whelan has given his reaction to the news on Bielsa, with the 47-year-old claiming that Toffees fans 'would love' to see the former Leeds United boss as their next manager:
“The one thing that Bielsa would bring to Everton is a more attractive, attacking brand of football.
“I think it would be a breath of fresh air for them. The fans would love to see it.
“We’ve seen what he does. He sets up his teams to attack, to work hard, to press – I think that’s all the Everton fans want to see.
“They want their side to have a go at teams and take the game to the opposition. At the moment, they’re just sitting back and absorbing.
“At the moment it’s not working, and I think Bielsa would be a great fit. The fans should be absolutely overjoyed to see him at Goodison Park.”

The Verdict: Time for change
The World Cup break presents an ideal time for clubs to change managers if they feel necessary, as they can then work with the players not at the tournament and implement fresh tactics ahead of the league season resuming.
The Blues' results have been poor of late, winning just one of their last eight games in total over all competitions, including getting knocked out of the Carabao Cup 4-1 by Bournemouth (Sky Sports).
They currently sit just one place and one point above the drop zone, and supporters will not want to see them engaged in another relegation battle come the end of the campaign.
Having scored a mere 11 goals in their first 15 games as well, they will certainly want to be entertained more, and Bielsa, nicknamed 'El Loco' ('The Crazy'), would provide that.
In Leeds' first season back in the Premier League, they scored 62 goals, more than the likes of Chelsea and Arsenal, and even though they conceded 54, they still managed to finish in ninth place (Sky Sports).
Hiring Bielsa would be a risk, after all he was sacked at Elland Road last term over fears that his chaotic style of football would get the Whites relegated, but it could be a risk worth taking for Everton based on his previous successful campaign.
