Everton: Toffees have had Maxwel Cornet ‘conversations’

Everton: Toffees have had Maxwel Cornet ‘conversations’ -Everton News

Everton have reportedly now ‘had conversations’ over potentially signing Maxwel Cornet.

The Lowdown: Burnley standout

The 25-year-old was a standout player for a struggling Burnley side last season, finishing as their top scorer in the Premier League with nine goals, while he also picked up one assist and one man-of-the-match award (WhoScored).

With the Clarets relegated to the Championship, it seems likely that the Ivory Coast international will now move on from Turf Moor before the transfer window closes.

The Latest: ‘Conversations’

Taking to Twitter, Fraser Fletcher has revealed that Everton, as well as Chelsea, have ‘had conversations’ regarding the possibility of snapping up Cornet, who has a £17.5m release clause in his contract at Burnley.

The BBC journalist tweeted: “Maxwel Cornet is expecting to leave Burnley. Chelsea & Everton have had conversations, host of clubs round Europe too. Cornet has £17.5m exit clause in contract, Burnley ready and expecting his exit.”

The Verdict: Get it done

After losing Everton’s 2021/22 top scorer Richarlison to Tottenham Hotspur, Frank Lampard is in desperate need of some attacking reinforcements, and Cornet could well be an ideal signing.

Having already gained the experience of playing in the English top flight, he should be able to settle in relatively quickly, and there could be a place in the front three for him alongside Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Anthony Gordon.

Everton fans! Do you remember who scored your first league goal of the 21/22 season?

Dubbed a ‘fantastic’ player by former Clarets team-mate Chris Wood, Cornet is only 25 years of age, so the Toffees can take advantage of a player who, all going well, is about to hit his prime over the next few years.
