The fantastic form of Dominic Calvert-Lewin was halted by Gareth Southgate as the Everton star was named on the bench for England last night.
He was replaced in the starting line-up by Tottenham’s Harry Kane, who reportedly felt an issue with his thigh last week and began to suffer from muscle fatigue, with disputes over whether he was fully fit to play.
Nonetheless, the Three Lions lost the game 1-0 at Wembley to Denmark in the UEFA Nations League as Calvert-Lewin did not have enough time to make an impact off of the bench.
CALVERT-LEWIN HAS BEEN IN FANTASTIC FORM FOR EVERTON
Indeed, Calvert-Lewin has been in fantastic form for the Goodison Park faithful, as the 23-year old has scored nine goals in just six games in all competitions for the Merseyside club so far this season, including hat-tricks in two matches, according to Transfermarkt.
CALVERT-LEWIN DIDN’T HAVE ENOUGH TIME TO MAKE AN IMPACT
Calvert-Lewin was only given a mere 18 minutes to make an impact for England in their game against Denmark, with the team still a man down after Manchester United defender Harry Maguire got himself sent off for two bookable offences.
Does Calvert-Lewin deserve the England call-up?
Thus, the striker failed to register a shot on target or complete a successful dribble, recording just eight touches of the ball in total, as per Sofascore.
SOUTHGATE SHOULD HAVE KEPT HIS FAITH IN CALVERT-LEWIN
Indeed, if Southgate started Calvert-Lewin, the striker would have had more time to make an impact in the match. Full of confidence after his great start to the season, he was probably a better option to start up top than Kane, who was perhaps not fully fit.
The Tottenham forward also failed to register a shot on target or execute a successful dribble (via Sofascore), but played in the whole game unlike Calvert-Lewin and therefore had ample time to post better statistics.
