Everton: Ben Jacobs says Toffees could still sign Billy Gilmour -Everton News

CBS Sports Golazo journalist Ben Jacobs has revealed that Everton could sign Billy Gilmour on top of other midfield additions.

The Lowdown: Onana and Gueye imminent

The signings of Lille’s Amadou Onana and PSG’s Idrissa Gueye are both thought to be imminent, as Frank Lampard looks to bolster his squad for the new season.

They have already signed James Tarkowski, Ruben Vinagre and Dwight McNeil, and could bring in even more new faces before the window closes.

The Latest: Gilmour ‘very possible’

Speaking to EFC Daily, Jacobs has revealed that it is ‘very possible’ that the Goodison Park outfit also sign Gilmour, adding that Lampard is ‘very keen’ on a move for the Chelsea midfielder:

“A season-long loan is more likely than a permanent sale. Gilmour is open to the move but there are no formal negotiations just yet. Frank Lampard is very keen on Gilmour, though, so it’s very possible this deal happens. And if Idrissa Gueye returns, the pair could form a very strong partnership.”

The Verdict: Loan over permanent

If the Merseyside club were to sign Gilmour, a loan deal would be a better move for them than a permanent one.

They look to have already brought in two central midfielders, and adding another one in the Scotland international would mean that one or two would have to be let go in order to not cluster that position.

Gilmour did not have the best season on loan at Norwich City, managing no goals and just two assists in all competitions (Transfermarkt) as the Canaries were relegated from the Premier League.

However, the 21-year-old is clearly a promising talent having already made 22 senior appearances for Chelsea, as well as accumulating 15 caps for Scotland (Transfermarkt).

Of course, there is a chance that a move away from Stamford Bridge may not work out again, which is why a loan deal would suit the Toffees.
