Journalist Pete O'Rourke has claimed that Frank Lampard will 'be over the moon' after keeping Anthony Gordon at Everton this summer.

The Lowdown: Chelsea pushed

As per The Guardian, data analysts at Chelsea pushed for the club to sign Gordon in the summer transfer window.

However, former Blues manager Thomas Tuchel did not actually want the winger, despite his team reportedly having a second bid worth £45m rejected for him.

Nonetheless, the Goodison Park outfit stood firm on their valuation, and Gordon has ended up staying on Merseyside.

The Latest: Lampard 'over the moon'

Speaking to GiveMeSport, O'Rourke has claimed that Lampard will 'be over the moon' that the Toffees managed to keep hold of Gordon:

“He’ll be over the moon they’ve kept Anthony Gordon. He worked really hard to keep hold of him. They turned down sizeable offers from Chelsea for Gordon, so that shows Everton’s determination not to let Gordon leave during the summer transfer window.

“And Gordon’s repaid that. So far this season, he’s probably been Everton’s best player. He’s got a few goals as well.”

The Verdict: Reaping the rewards

The Blues are reaping the rewards of keeping Gordon based off of some of his impressive performances so far this season.

He is their top scorer in the Premier League at the moment with two goals, while he is also ranking highly among other members of the squad in terms of average tackles, shots, key passes, dribbles and through balls per game (WhoScored).

Nonetheless, given that Chelsea managed to take Marc Cucurella and Wesley Fofana off of top-flight rivals Brighton and Hove Albion and Leicester City respectively, it would not have been easy to resist big-money offers for Gordon, but the club stuck to their guns, and are now seeing the benefits of having him in the team.
