Everton podcaster Ryan Williams criticised the performance of Nathan Patterson in their 2-1 defeat at home to Wolves in the Premier League on Boxing Day.

The Lowdown: Damaging defeat for Everton

The defeat in front of the Toffees' home supporters was a damaging one for Frank Lampard and his team, as Rayan Ait-Nouri scored a last-gasp winner for the visitors to take them off of the bottom of the table.

The result means that they close the gap to the Goodison Park outfit to just one point, with Everton sitting just outside the relegation zone in 17th place.

The Latest: Patterson criticised

Taking to Twitter, Williams was particularly critical of Patterson's performance on Monday, claiming that it was 'mind boggling' how 'absolutely terrible' the Scotland defender played.

The podcaster fumed: "Patterson has been absolutely terrible. Mind boggling, really. Hesitant all over the pitch. Bad decisions."

The Verdict: Not his best

It was certainly not Patterson's best game, as the right-back was caught out for Daniel Podence's equaliser and struggled defensively throughout the match.

He lost out on three of his individual duels and failed to record any interceptions or tackles, losing the ball on no fewer than 17 separate occasions in total. Patterson also struggled offensively at times, recording no key passes and being inaccurate with all six of his attempted crosses (SofaScore).

Nonetheless, like his Everton team-mates, the 21-year-old will have to put that rustiness aside quickly as the Toffees look for an instant response in their next fixture against Manchester City.
