Chelsea have made a monstrous cash-plus-player bid for Everton star Anthony Gordon, according to Football Insider.

The Lowdown: Previous bids

As per a report by talkSPORT, Thomas Tuchel’s side have tabled a £60m bid for the 21-year-old, entailing £50m upfront with £10m in add-ons. The outlet also claimed that the west London club had a bid of around the £40m mark rejected by the Toffees earlier in the month.

Last week, The Athletic’s David Ornstein reported that Gordon had informed Everton manager Frank Lampard that he wants to join Chelsea as he is keen to play Champions League football, which he believes will boost his chances of getting called up to the England squad for the World Cup later this year.

The Latest: Chelsea’s monstrous offer

According to a new report by Football Insider, Chelsea have offered Everton an eye-watering £85m package to sign Gordon this summer which could even see Lampard having his squad topped up by one additional player.

It is believed that the London club have offered the Toffees £25m plus striker Armando Broja and midfielder Conor Gallagher for the England under-21 international.

Chelsea value the pair at £30m each, taking the overall deal far beyond Lampard’s £60m (upfront) valuation of Gordon.

The Verdict: Accept the offer

Everton remain on the lookout for a striker to bring to Goodison Park before Thursday’s transfer deadline. With a new midfielder also high on Lampard’s list, Chelsea’s offer makes perfect sense for the Toffees, as they will then be able to put the extra £25m towards a direct replacement for Gordon.

If that happens, then with little expenditure Everton could have three new players for the price of one, making this a very good deal for the Merseyside club.

The only issue here is that the Toffees will have very little time remaining in the transfer window to find and secure a replacement for Gordon. Therefore, Everton will need to move fast if they plan to accept this staggering offer from Chelsea.
