Atletico Madrid’s Kieran Trippier wants to return to England this summer and Everton could be a possible destination, according to a report from The Athletic.
Marcel Brands and co are said to be looking to bolster their full-back ranks, and the former Spurs star is ‘on their radar’.
Seamus Coleman has spent much of the season as the only out-and-out right-back in the squad, with Jonjoe Kenny out on loan at Celtic.
Manchester United are also said to be interested in the 30-year-old Trippier as a competitor for Aaron Wan-Bissaka – he has made 27 La Liga appearances for Diego Simeone’s side this season.
He’s provided six assists in the Spanish top flight, ranking him fourth in the Atletico squad (via BBC Sport).
The Englishman, who’s competing for a place in Gareth Southgate’s European Championships squad, could earn a La Liga winners’ medal this weekend, with Atletico two points of city rivals Real ahead of the final round of fixtures.
Fan feed The Toffee Blues relayed the report, and here’s how fans reacted.
Everton fans urge club not to pursue Trippier interest
“A good player but could hardly be further from the profile needed”
“Please get a grip. It’s not difficult – replacing a 33 yr old with a 30 yr who will cost considerable £ is so poor.”
“Blimey my grandad is available on a free if Everton are interested.”
“Will we ever become serious”
“No. If we don’t get the recruitment right this summer I might give up it’s so glaringly obvious what we need and if a director of football who gets lorded can’t see it then what’s the point”
“Trippier turns 31 at the start of next season. Very much not the profile of player we need to replace Seamus Coleman.”
“Why are we becoming a geriatric unit for footballers”
In other news, fans reacted to Patrick Boyland’s transfer revelation.
