Journalist Matt Jones has been left overjoyed after Everton completed the signing of central defender Conor Coady.

The lowdown: Deal done

Coady has completed a season-long loan switch from Wolves this week, joining the Toffees after missing out on a place in Bruno Lage's starting XI for their opening day 2-1 defeat at the hands of Leeds United.

The signing of the 29-year-old England international could reportedly be made permanent next summer as he leaves the Wanderers having been the club captain at Molineux, amassing 317 appearances during a seven-year spell in the Midlands.

A product of the youth academy at Everton's arch-rivals Liverpool, Coady admitted it is 'incredible' and he is 'over the moon' to be joining the Goodison Park outfit, a view shared by one invested onlooker...

The latest: 'Really good business'

Taking to Twitter, Jones - who writes for the Liverpool Echo and appears on The Blue Room podcast - proclaimed that the capture of the ten-cap star is 'really good business' by the Blues.

He stated: “Loan feels like really good business. Think it gets overlooked that a three-player defence requires specialist players at wing-back and centre-back - Coady is absolutely one of those. Excellent character, brilliant injury record. What could go wrong?”

The verdict: Spot on

A veteran of 417 total professional outings, Coady will bring vast experience and impressive leadership qualities that have endeared the Liverpudlian to numerous managers and teammates alike.

Last season, the £22.5million valued ace scored four times in 38 Premier League appearances, only failing to complete 90 minutes on three occasions and earning a 6.99 Sofascore rating while helping to keep 11 clean sheets, showing defensive acumen that was lacking all too often for the Toffees.

Predominantly operating as the defensive lynchpin in the middle of a back three in recent campaigns, a system Frank Lampard is looking to utilise at Everton, Coady can also play in a back two, at right back and as a defensive midfielder, offering an abundance of options.

However, having lost Yerry Mina and Ben Godfrey to injury over the weekend, the no-nonsense centre-back seems certain to take a place at the heart of the defence alongside James Tarkowski and one other.
