Some Everton fans have slammed a post from the Merseyside club showing their appreciation to Wayne Rooney as he became the permanent Derby boss.
The Goodison Park faithful sent their congratulations to the 35 year-old on their official Twitter page by posting a video compilation of his 10 best goals with the caption: ‘Once a Blue, twice a Blue, always a Blue…’
Should Rooney manage Everton one day?
The caption itself did not go down very well at all with some Toffees as the Englishman left them to join Manchester United as a teenager and ended up winning multiple accolades during his time at Old Trafford, including no fewer than five Premier League titles and one UEFA Champions League trophy to his name (Transfermarkt), therefore leaving much of his footballing legacy with the Red Devils instead.
Everton fan reaction to Rooney post
These Blues supporters slammed the post on Twitter, with one EFC fan even going as far to say as he came back to them as a ‘has been’:
“Could have been an Everton great. Came back as a has been. Such a shame.”
“Judas more like! Manure legend not a blue”
“Blue when it suits him”
“Yeah, must be.. left to help us financially then kissed the Manc rats badge at Goodison, slagged us off and crawled back at his lowest and slagged us off? He’s no Blue. Big Dunc came back and we still idolise him”
“What do @RBarkley8 and @WayneRooney have in common ay?”
“Once a Blue always a Blue who kissed the Man United badge twice at Goodison”
