Roma manager Paulo Fonseca has reportedly phoned Everton winger Bernard to discuss a potential move to the Giallorossi in the future.
Bernard has previously been linked with a move to the Stadio Olimpico and now, an update has emerged about the Brazilian’s situation at the Goodison Park-based side.
Should Bernard leave Everton this month?
Fonseca has been in contact with Bernard
Italian outlet Il Tempo (via SportWitness) have recently issued an update about Roma’s chase of Bernard. They state that Roma boss Fonseca has been in telephone contact with Bernard recently and this comes after the Series A giants held talks with the Brazilian’s agents over the last few days.
The report also states that Roma’s priority signing happens to be Bernard and that he’s ahead of Stephan El Shaarawy and Porto’s Otavio in their shortlist. El Shaarawy would be an easier option to sign, the report states, as Marcel Brands isn’t giving away any discounts for Bernard. However, a deal could be done if it includes Robin Olsen staying at Goodison Park on a permanent basis.
Because of these complications, Roma are yet to make a concrete offer for the 28-year-old winger. The former Shakhtar Donetsk man is currently valued at £13.5 million.
Everton should part ways with Bernard
In the Premier League, Bernard has made only six appearances in the current campaign, scoring once. He played all three of the club’s games in the League Cup, contributing to two goals for the side (as per Transfermarkt). This clearly show that the Brazilian is finding game time hard to come at Everton.
As many as 14 players have picked up better ratings than him for the Toffees this season whcihshows that perhaps, his contributions are rather replaceable. Because of that, selling him would no be a bad thing for Everton this month, especially if it can help them keep Olsen.
