Everton manager Frank Lampard is currently not facing the sack despite a poor run of form, according to reports in the last 48 hours.

The Lowdown: Bielsa under consideration

The Premier League side suffered a dismal 3-0 defeat at the hands of Bournemouth last weekend, just four days after being knocked out of the Carabao Cup by the Cherries by a 4-1 margin.

Following Saturday's game, reports emerged claiming that the Toffees hierarchy had discussed the possibility of making an approach for Marcelo Bielsa, but it now sounds like the board believe Lampard is the right man to continue in the job at Goodison Park.

The Latest: Lampard’s fate revealed

According to Football Insider on Tuesday afternoon, Everton have ‘decided to stand by’ Lampard and ‘give him time’ to turn things around, as they ‘believe’ he can guide them away from relegation.

It’s stated that club chiefs ‘have discussed’ his position over the 72 hours following Saturday's defeat, but are set to ‘hold firm’ and back the 44-year-old upon the return of domestic action following the conclusion of the World Cup.

The Verdict: Wrong decision

Everton might think they are making the right decision by putting their faith in Lampard, but they need to relieve him of his duties now before it’s too late.

The Merseyside outfit have lost seven and won just three of their opening 15 league games, which leaves them hovering scarily close to the relegation zone, just one point and one place above Nottingham Forest in 18th.

The Toffees’ first match back after the break is against bottom-of-the-table Wolves, which seems the perfect opportunity to get a positive result. Any other outcome, though, and it could be game over for Lampard.
